Man Destroys €59,000 Hyundai with Scaffold Bar Over Rottweiler Dispute | Shocking CCTV Footage (2025)

When anger boils over, the cost can be devastating. A man’s furious outburst over his neighbors’ dogs ended with a smashed car, a hefty loss, and a court sentence that’s drawing mixed reactions.

A 41-year-old named Eoin Mulcahy admitted to using a scaffold bar to inflict major damage on his neighbors’ €59,000 Hyundai electric car after an argument about their two Rottweiler dogs escalated beyond control. The incident, which occurred on October 22, 2023, left the vehicle so severely damaged by rainwater that it was ultimately written off as beyond repair.

Mulcahy, who lived in Chestnut Mews, Cluain Ard, Cobh, County Cork, believed the dogs were often left uncontrolled, and tensions had apparently been rising between the households. One night, in a moment he later described as having “just lost it,” Mulcahy was caught on CCTV approaching his neighbors’ property wielding a metal scaffold bar. He then struck the car repeatedly, smashing the bonnet, wing mirrors, and several windows while the owners listened in shock to the sounds of destruction outside.

During the hearing at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Sinéad Behan sentenced Mulcahy to one year in prison, suspended in full. The judge criticized Mulcahy’s handling of the dispute, describing it as an example of turning a neighborhood disagreement into something dangerous by choosing to arm himself. But here’s where it gets controversial: though he has since moved away, his former neighbors reportedly remain fearful of his potential return.

Defence barrister Mahon Corkery told the court that Mulcahy was honest and remorseful from the moment of his arrest. He immediately admitted his actions, wrote a letter of apology, and cooperated with Gardaí. In a bid to make amends, Mulcahy also completed an addiction treatment program and raised €5,000 as a symbolic gesture of repentance.

Judge Behan took these steps into account when deciding on the sentence, concluding that a suspended term was reasonable given the remorse, rehabilitation efforts, and relocation from the area. Still, the judge acknowledged the ongoing anxiety experienced by the victims.

Many are asking a larger question: was a suspended sentence enough, considering the deliberate nature of the attack and the emotional toll on his neighbors? Others argue that his remorse and efforts at recovery show genuine change. What do you think — should violent outbursts like this be punished more harshly, or is rehabilitation the right focus? Share your thoughts below — this is one that’s bound to spark debate.
